The nursery

I have been really stressed about this baby coming because we haven't had the extra money to be able to make a nice nursery like we did for Jayden. We were able to successfully move Jayden into a big boy bed that we had in our crawl space so luckily we didn't have to buy a crib or mattresses. We also were able to reuse Jayden's dresser/ changing table, since Ryan's parents gave us a dresser for Jayden's room. With Christmas around the corner I knew our budget was going to be super tight. So I will explain how we got EVERYTHING for a little over $100. I am SO happy with how it turned out.

It all started with my DEAR friend Stephanie who, with her awesome sister in law made me a rag quilt. THANK YOU!!! It was my inspiration for everything. I owe you both so much. The best gift ever- and it turned out SO cute. It was a bit of work cutting snips on every seam to give the frayed look- but so worth it. Rag quilts are expensive!!!!!

With the blanket in possession I started brainstorming. We had some leftover brown paint from the master bedroom project. I didn't want to paint the whole room, but I did want to give it a little punch of color. So here we are prepping..

Well basically- here are all the before pictures. And Jayden... he was VERY helpful. Thats his "big boy bed" in the center of the room...

All right- so I wanted to have one wall have a shelf, but I wanted it to look kind of decorative. so we bought 2 1x6x10s and 1 1x6x6 of pressed plywood I painted them with the brown paint we used on our bedroom and we used 8 of these little square moldings that were around $1/each. Total cost= A little under $30

I bought some curtains, a bumper, and a dust ruffle at the Baby Depot located in Burlington Coat Factory. Total cost= $50
Curtain rod and drawbacks were on clearance at Shopko, PLUS I had a coupon so it ended up being about $15

Then I had to get creative- I bought $3.50 worth of scrapbook paper, 8 pictures frames of various shapes and sizes at the dollar store= $8. Went to Roberts and bought some paint on sale 3 bottles for under $3... A bag of wooden alphabet numbers= $3.50. And a container of "Puppy dog tail" wall stickers for $11.

Making this room a total of= $120.00. Definitely nice to have the hand me downs from Jayden :)

The shelf wall:

The "Stripe" wall... never doing lines again. It took hours- and then HOURS of touch up. It's not perfect. But it'll do.

When we have a name picked out for this little boy I'll put his name up over the crib in those big wood letters.
The wall stickers turned out cute. I like them. I think on the top middle part of the closet I'll put a sign that says, "Snakes, snails, and puppy dog tails"

And then the alaphabet. And the curtains. And the 1x6s nailed into the wall. It definitely would have been easier to do the alphabet in vinyl, but not as cost effective since I would have had to buy 4 different colors of vinyl to achieve the same look. But painting small letters= not fun.

Anyway- Im happy with how it turned out. Im glad we just did brown accents because if we ever have a girl it would be really easy to make it a girls room too. And Im glad its done!! Now to sort through boxes and figure out what else this baby needs...

So cute. I looooove the striped wall. I did my entire room once when I was younger. Took months. So I know how you feel. But it looks so great.
