This week

This week has been absolutely crazy... And one that I don't want to repeat. Ever.

When I was pregnant and planning on breastfeeding- nobody told me about "mastitis". The most horrible infection ever! (According to me). 1 in 3 women who breastfeed get it. How did I not know about it???

On Monday feeding Jayden brought me to tears it hurt so much. I wasn't sure what was going on but I figured it would pass. On Tuesday I woke up- a complete wreck. I was supposed to nanny, and Jayden woke up around 7:30... when I got up to feed him I almost passed out just walking to his room. Luckily he fell back asleep and I proceeded to vomit and get the worst chills ever. I went to take a shower and wasn't able to stay standing to finish it. On top of that, the water was scalding hot and I could not get warm.
I thought for sure I had some sort of flu. After an online search of my symptoms- I found mastitis. Looked through the symptoms: check, check check... I called my OB.
She insisted I come in. I really didn't feel like going anywhere. But no appointment= no drugs.
Anyway- I went in. She confirmed I had mastitis... She asked me about drug allergies. I told her I didn't have any. And she sent me to the lab to get some blood drawn. She told me to rest as much as I possibly could. Yeah, I have a seven month old who is on a sleep strike (more on that later). I would LOVE to rest.
I got my antibiotics... and attempted to rest. Too bad Jayden got all his sleeping done on the drive to/from the Dr.

By Wednesday I was feeling a little better. I managed to have enough energy to pick up the house. I wasn't feeling 100% but a lot better than I felt on Tuesday.

Thursday... another bad day. I woke up feeling MUCH better. I took my antibiotic.. ate breakfast... fed Jayden... Then Jayden I took Jayden downstairs to play with some toys.
Have you ever seen the movie Hitch? Where Will Smith has that allergic reaction- and makes tha weird noise with his throat because it's starting to swell up? That was me.
My throat was swelling. I could feel the swelling get worse- and go deeper down my chest. I called the pharmacist who told me to take Benadryl (Just what a tired mom needs!!) stop taking the antibiotics and call my Dr.
I tried to lay down while Jayden was taking a nap... but I was having a hard time breathing and I was afraid to go to sleep. Then I started freaking myself out with my "imagination" since Jayden and I were the only ones home- and what if my throat swelled so much I couldn't breathe.. Would Jayden be OK? Would a neighbor hear him crying... should I call someone just in case...

*Sigh* Long story short apparently Im allergic to penicillin. But I am on new antibiotics which I have not had a reaction to. I am feeling better- but Im exhausted. It's 2:20 am. Im working. Im tired. I just want to sleep. I'm surprised at how calm my voice is when I answer a call cause everytime my phone beeps my body screams in frustration.
On top of everything Jayden has woken up 4-5 times a night.. every night this week. And it's not a wake up... go back to sleep type thing. If I don't go in there within 5 minutes he loses it. I have no idea what's going on... but Im not getting any sleep. He is the biggest mama's boy ever. And it, although flattering, is killing me. I need a break... :)

On a more uplifting note:

Jayden started crawling on Monday. He's all grown up (^-^)

Ryan bought a 52" TV.

I sold our entertainment/armoire, and 3 bookshelves on KSL within 24 hours (still working on selling the old TV)

Now I get to redecorate the family room.

Ryan finished putting tile down in the bathroom/laundry room, and entry way from garage it looks amazing!

3 hours and 15 minutes until I am off work and can go to sleep!! :)

You know one thing that children never grow out of? Not listening to their parents. On Monday morning, Tiffany complained of a lump in her breast and I told her it was probably a breast infection and that she should bet it looked at right away and get on antibiodics. And how common it was for breast feeding mommies. But did she listen? No! Hmmmmm Anyway glad she is feeling better.

I am so sorry darling that you have had a crappy week. My sister in law gets mastisis and it is not fun for her either. If you need help please let me know, I would be happy to. That is cool that you got a new tv, I will need to come and watch something with you :)

Ugh, I'm so sorry it's been that kind of week! I had the same thing happen when I was on penicillin, plus a horrible rash. Miserable. Wouldn't wish it on anyone!

Hope it gets better soon! And I hope you get some rest!!!

Maybe I should give you one of my epipens? Advice from a girl who has had a lifetime full of anaphylactic shock, I would recommend crushing the Benedryl next time - much faster effect when they are immediately dissoluble. Sorry you had to experience that. I have gone through it so many times that I just calmly do everything I need depending on the situation, while my friends all stare and freak out - though they are all trained on how to use my epipen if I can't do it. It's so FUN having allergies.

Oh No!! Im in living fear of that thing. Im glad you're feeling better and have resolved everything with the drugs etc. but WOAH what an ordeal :( On a happier note, I can't believe he is crawling! I want to see! Plus I agree with Katie, we definitly need a new show for Monday's, especially with a new pimp TV. Dancing with the Stars...?????

Holy Cow! That sucks! If you ever need to call me I will bring you food and watch Jayden in a heart beat! I can even pick up medicine at the Pharmacy! Just say Linda I'm barfing...and I'll be right there!

About the sleep thing. Maren did the same thing! My pediatrician said it's common at this age because they are now understanding object permanance! No more "out of sight out of mind"...he knows your still there!

Ouch! I hope you're feeling better now since it's the weekend. I thought what Linda said was very interesting about the object permanence.
I'm excited to see all the tile and t.v. fun. I think Gretch has a great idea. DWTS sounds like a great show.

sorry bout all that tiff. brooke went through that too with the sleeping thing at that age. what worked best for her was to nurse her and then lay her down before she was even close to asleep and then rub her back til she feel asleep. she was mad at me the first few times but she caught on and she started sleeping through the night again. i think it's easier for them to fall back asleep when they toss and turn in the night if they understand how to fall asleep already by themselves in their crib. i don't know, maybe you already do something like that, but it really helped with brooke. jess aug blogged about what she did in great detail a few months ago and it really helped her too. her blog link is on mine if you want to take a look. you might have to search though bc she blogs a lot and it was in like november. :)

I'm sorry! I hope you're feeling better.
I've had allergic reactions too.. not to drugs, but to food, it's a scary feeling i always felt like i was going to die... but i always ended up looking like Will Smith off of Hitch, bummer.

if you need rest, come on over, i'm only a couple houses away... i'd be happy to help you out!! Really, don't hesitate!

I hope this week goes MUCH better for you.

Oh no! The Mastitis Fairy visited me 3 times when I was breastfeeding JJ. And I think the only thing more painful is natural childbirth. (which I also know about.) I have LOTS of tips on preventing it.
And I'm so sorry about the sleep! I will watch Jayden during the day if you ever need a nap- I'm pretty much always here so just call me.

Mastitis is awful! I had it once when Ian was little, and once again when Simon was 1 month. I agree with Marianne, natural child-birth is the only thing worse. I'm glad you got your antibiotics, despite the new allergy.
Good luck with the sleep thing. Just know that it is ok to let him cry, yes you can gasp at my horrible parenting. :)
Think of it this way, is it more important to have an awake and alert mommy during the day so you can actually pay attention to Jayden? Or be up with him all night, exhausting yourself. (exhaustion can lead to mastitis by the way)
I've learned after three kids that teaching your baby to self-soothe is much harder on the parents then the baby. In other words, you won't be in therapy with Jayden in 20 years talking about how you let him cry himself to sleep when he was 7 months old.
Ack! This is too long! Sorry :)

I know how you feel. I currently have mastitis and it is horrible. My luck is that this is the second time I have had it with Kaitlyn. I first got it about a week and half ago (naturally that weekend of Kaitlyn's blessing). It just knocks you off you feet for a good day or two until the antibiotics kick. Sorry you had to go through it, its the life of a mother.

17 comments! Wow you are a popular girl! So not fun! I think it is worse when the mom is sick. Nothing can function and you get no sleep so it takes way longer to get better! So exciting on your new projects though! So wish we could get some of those things!

You poor thing! I'm glad you are feeling better and that Jayden's hand is not bothering him. He looks super cute in his new hat...I'm sure it can entertain him for a while!
