An update

I'm sorry. I didn't realize it had been so long since I have sent out an update on what is going on with Jayden. This whole weeks the days have been long, but kind of mushed together. So Im not really aware of them passing if that makes any sense. Im in the hospital now and Jayden is in the NICU with daddy so I thought I would take some time and let you know what's going on...

We have made some progress. A lot of progress. Jayden finished his antibiotics on Wednesday! They were able to take his IV out completely on Thursday which made it a lot easier to hold him. I was so bummed because on Wednesday night they told me I could bring an outfit for him. He has been living in diapers since he had the IV. I brought a very cute (of course!) outfit for him on Thursday morning only to find out his billuribin had gone up AGAIN- and he had to be put under the lights (Jaundice). Darn it!!! He is still on those lights. But he is a very chill baby so he is really good with it. Just lays there with his little eye mask on... Only crys when he is hungry...

Speaking of hungry they let me start feeding him on Wednesday. That was exciting for me. They had been soley giving him the breast milk I pumped through a tube- which is good I'm glad he was getting the nutrients but I wanted to breast feed. The first day it took a while to catch on- but now we're pretty good at it. He is drinking a lot more- and the nurses feed him my breast milk by bottle when I'm not there.

The stipulations of him coming home was that he needed to be doing full feedings for 48 hours and he needed to gain weight for 48 hours. It has been an emotional roller coaster because we were only allowed thirty minutes to give him a full feeding- and if he didn't get his full feeding he had to be fed through the tube which meant we had to start the 48 hours all over again. So the last couple of days I have spent 13-14 hours here at the hospital to make sure he was getting his full feedings. Finally a doctor ordered that they take the feeding tube out- and put Jayden on an "ad lib" schedule which means I can feed him whenever I want. In the hospital they were doing a strict 3 hour schedule- and Jayden is a snacker so it wasn't working out...

I hope this all makes sense. Im on pain medication right now so I apologize if it seems like Im going nowhere with all this. To sum everything up- according to what one of the Dr's originally told us Jayden was supposed to come home tonight as long as he gained weight at his nine o clock PM weighing. So we brought his diaper bag, carseat, and my anxiousness!!! Only to get here for them to tell us they don't want to send him home until tomorrow. There honestly isn't a very good reason. His billuribin score (the score the determines whether or not he needs to be under the lights) is back to normal but they want to keep him under the lights all day and night just to be sure... I wish they had told us this before.

So I'm really frustrated. I just want my baby to come home- and of course the nurses won't commit to anything... "If all goes well hopefully we'll be able to send him home tomorrow... it depends on how busy the unit is. There's a lot of paper work we have to do..." is what the last nurse said. And if our baby- who is a big healthy baby loses even a kilogram then we're screwed and have to wait another two days. Please pray for us that our baby will gain weight at his next weighing... that's all we're waiting for.

Anyway- I'm ready for this emotional roller coaster to end.. any day now. But HOPEFULLY our baby will come home with us tomorrow afternoon. We're ready for him!! I took his picture today with no cords on his face. He's so stinking cute. :) I will post them pretty soon here I hope. I appreciate your prayers, you're emails and support. So does Ryan.

I'll let you know if he comes home tomorrow!!! If I see the Dr. today I'll try to convince him to let Jayden come home tonight- but Im trying not to get my hopes up again.

Awe hun... I know it's hard to have your baby be in the hospital, but try to remember that you don't want to take him home, just to take him right back to the hospital. They try to be very careful about discharging NICU babies because they can turn very fast. I hope his Bilirubin remains good and that he gains weight so you can take him home! Thinking about you!

Love!

Oh My Goodness! Is he the most handsome little human on the planet, or WHAT? Tiff, you look SO beautiful...even on the delivery table! Thank your parents for those good genes! ;) I hear your little guy is coming home soon. Give each other big kisses from your first-cousin-once-removed in Sacramento-ish. We love you. Teresa
