Jayden's Story

Thank you Tara for posting the picture and the stats below. Jayden is here and we're really excited. It has been a rough, but beautiful few days. I wanted to write down everything that has happened before I forget and share the story with you since I haven't been able to call everyone back. First off- thank you for your prayers and concern :)

I had a Dr. Appt on Tuesday afternoon. I was scheduled for an ultrasound. My blood pressure was a little high at the beginning of the appointment, but as usual- my Dr wasn't too worried about it. At the ultrasound Jayden was measuring pretty big. His head was measuring 42 weeks! And they guessed he weighed about 8 pounds. He appeared to be doing well. The Dr. talked about moving up my induce date from the 27th to a iittle earlier since Jayden looked so big at 37 weeks. He decided to take my blood pressure ONE MORE TIME before the appt. ended and it was higher than it has ever been in my life. "Well, it looks like we're going to have a baby tomorrow. We're going to have to induce you" he said. YIPES!!! I didn't have a hospital bag packed- but luckily everything I was going to bring was on our bed. My mom had come with me to my appt so LUCKILY she was there.
I called Ryan- and he didn't believe me. :) Luckily it didn't take too much to convince him. He packed the bags and tried his best to get the house ready. They started the process of inducing me around 6 p.m. on Tuesday. I didn't get any sleep due to contractions and nerves.. Ryan came and slept to the couch next to me.
They broke my water around 8 in the morning. I got the epidoral and we watched TV while we waited for me to dialate. It wasn't too bad. It took a while but I wasn't too uncomfortable. About 4 in the afternoon on Wednesday my contractions started getting pretty strong. With the epidural it was still pretty painful... But Ryan was GREAT coach, and my mom was there encouraging me. Before I knew it it was time to push.
Here are some pictures of the first 10 mins of Jayden's life :) (Thank you mom for taking these- Ryan forgot to bring the camera.. ;) )

He had a hard time coming out. He got pretty bruised and puffy coming through the birth canal. He also tore me up pretty bad :(. It was kind of a tramatic delivery for both of us. About 20 minutes after he was born they rushed him down to the NICU (Newborn Intensive Care Unit). He was starting to turn blue. That whole process is a blur to me. I was told they needed to check some things out but that they would bring him up to me later that night. Later that night we were told he would be up the next day.

It's all a blur and we were told a lot of different things. It was emotionally draining. We were told he had heart murmur. Then we were told he didn't. They said his heart was too big, then were told that that was actually not true... We weren't sure what was going on and it was pretty scary... Here is is on Thursday at the NICU

These last few days have been tough... He was doing a lot better, and then it would get worse... We had to come home from the hospital today but our baby is still there. They finally started feeding him through a feeding tube today which I think will help him a lot. It was hard to leave the hospital without him.

Thus far here are his current conditions: He was diagnosed with pnemonia. He has been having a hard time breathing and his Respitory Rates have been pretty high. He is currently on oxygen. The last couple of days they have slowly been able to bring the oxygen levels down- which is really good. He has an IV giving him vitamins and lipids. They started a feeding tube today and they are giving him the milk I have been pumping. He is on Day 3 of antibiotics. Hopefully his breathing will get better soon!! He has juandice so is under lamps. They're not sure why he has pnemonia. It's possible he swallowed some amniotic fluid coming out? It could be his lungs weren't fully developed when he came out. We'll keep everyone posted.

He is so cute and we love him to death. Please keep him in your prayers.

oh wow hun!!! I wonder if his lungs weren't quite developed and he was big at 37 weeks b/c of the diabetes. Either way I'm sure he'll be just fine. He looks great! So stinking cute. trust those NICU nurses they're the best. ;)

Love ya!
I'll be thinking about you.

I am so happy for you and Ryan. 37 weeks is when I had tommy and Will. Jayden was bigger than both of them. He is adorable and so BIG no wonder it was a bit rough getting him out of your little body. You look so happy and I can't wait to meet him
lots of love
